Safety Foundations Package 

The Safety Foundations eLearning package consists of 14 courses considered essential to work to international standards in any Guyana industry.

 

In addition to the knowledge provided, it is designed to build a strong safety culture in participants. 

Package Features

Knowledge is acquired efficiently and retained for lasting impact. Frequent 'Knowledge Checks' and 'Final Assessments' provide students performance feedback as they work through each course.

Oil & Gas Package 

The basic knowledge to begin safely working in onshore/offshore environments  

Package Description 

The eLearning courses in the Onshore/Offshore package build on Safety Foundations. Courses cover the basics that everyone should know to safely work offshore. 

 

The 14 course program can be customized drawing on the more than 200 course library to meet specific company and individual needs.

  • HAZCOM (Hazard Communication) looks at the health hazard effects of hazardous substances and how these are controlled in the workplace 

  • Banksman and Slinger Roles in Lifting Operations introduces the safety requirements, equipment and techniques of this frequent oilfield operation.  

  • Crane Safety Awareness addresses the critical knowledge associated with this most frequently used pieces of equipment, including LOLER regulations  

  • Fire Protection, Prevention and Awareness teaches fire prevention measures, the basics of fires, how they start, and fire extinguishers 

  • Toolbox Talks sets out the basics of what makes a successful pre-job briefing, including the importance of individual participation

Industrial Package 

Key courses provide the foundational skills necessary to work in local industries.

Package Description 

The eLearning courses in the Industrial package build on Safety Foundations. The 15 courses (customizable) cover a broad range of topics, including:  

 

Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, PPE, Power Tools, Manual Handling, Permitting, Lock/Tag Out, Materials Storage, ... 

Example Courses

  • Hand and Power Tool Awareness covers from electrical saws, grinders, to hammers and screwdrivers, covering maintenance and specific hazards 

  • Electrical Isolations describes hazards, the tools and equipment required to provide isolations, and how the are removed in a safe system of work (SSOW) 

  • Lock-out Tag-out Awareness provides learners with a general overview of how process, machinery and electrical equipment are safely managed   

  • Permit to Work Systems (OSHA) explains the different types, the essential elements of each, and their role in work planning and risk assessment

  • Materials Handling and Storage (OSHA) describes what is involved, recognizing hazards, precautions, storage, safe handling, and reducing risks

The critical knowledge of the basics of safely working on construction projects. 

Package Description 

The Construction Package covers the basics of the most frequent construction project activities. 

 

Among the topics covered in the 14 course program are lifting and handling, power tools, permits, toolbox talks, working at heights, crane and related topics,  bolted joints and their control.

Hospitality Package 

The key basics for building a successful, high-performing hospitality industry team 

Package Description 

The Hospitality Package provides 12 courses for a foundational knowledge in the key areas of a successful industry.  

 

It includes selected courses from the Safety Foundations Package, since there are a number of industry courses there which are not relevant to hospitality. 

Example Courses 

  • Food Hygiene defines its importance, how to avoid contamination and poisoning, processes when dealing with food and best practices 

  • Human Factors explains the importance of workforce communication, explains near miss and incident analysis in the context of human factors   

  • Fatigue Management teaches the dangers, both at work and home, recognizing symptoms, environmental factors, and management   

  • Manual Handling summarizes laws and regulations, lifting correctly, avoiding injury and the importance of awareness  

  • Slips, Trips and Falls highlights their cost to industry, typical causes, prevention methods, and employer/employee responsibilities

Example Safety Foundations Course
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 

Course Description 

Personal Protective Equipment, no matter what profession you work in, is what it says it is – gear to keep YOU safe. By law, it is an employer’s responsibility to protect their employees from any workplace hazards.

 

The the aim of this course is to inform learners of the importance of PPE and encourage them to take an active interest in why PPE is necessary, when it must be worn and how to recognize any equipment failure.

Course Objectives 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Name the OSHA standards governing the provision and the use of PPE

• Explain the responsibilities an employer has regarding the provision of PPE

• Recognize how to identify if your PPE is suitable for use

• Express the training requirements for various types of safety equipment

The 20 minute single module course includes a 'Knowledge Check' and Exam. 

Example Onshore/Offshore Course 
Crane Safety Awareness

Course Description 

Crane operations are an everyday part of the oil and gas industry; lifting a multitude of supplies and materials on and off various facilities and vessels. However, injuries and dangerous occurrences arising from lifting operations account for almost 20% of offshore incidents.

In this course we will look at the potential
hazards when using cranes, and the health and safety procedures in place to ensure their safe operation.
 

Course Objectives 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Describe the importance of communications  

• Identify whether equipment is fit for use 

• Classify the hierarchy and job roles of Lifting Team members 

• Understand the importance of the Lift Plan 

• Relate lifting operations to LOLER regulations 

The 45 minute single module course includes a 'Knowledge Check' and Exam.

Example Industrial Course 
Hot Work Permit Awareness (OSHA)

Course Description 

Any process that can be a source of ignition can be considered as hot work. Welding, cutting, grinding and soldering are all potential fire hazards and a hot work permit will usually be required when these jobs are being carried out. 

The aim of this course is to help learners recognize the importance of proper hot work safety and make them aware of the dangers and potential consequences of not ensuring that hot work is carried out according to company policies.

Course Objectives 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Explain what 'Hot Work' is 

• Identify the dangers it poses in the workplace 

• Recognize the importance of having an effective hot work program 

• Describe the factors to consider when issuing a hot work permit 

The 30 minute single module course includes a 'Knowledge Check' and Exam. 

Example Construction Course 
Working at Height Awareness (OSHA)

Course Description 

In a recent work year, in UK alone, falls from height accounted for 35 fatalities, 4,654 major injuries and a further 7,065 other injuries resulting in at least three days off work. They remain the biggest single cause of workplace deaths and major injuries. 

This course is designed to give the learner an awareness of what working at height is and the hazards associated with it. We will look at ways to mitigate the risks and focus on the various means of access, including MEWPs, scaffolding and ladders. We will also look at personal restraint systems and risk assessments. 

Course Objectives 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Define what 'working at height' is 

• Identify hazards when planning to work at height 

• Understand personal fall protection equipment 

• Describe safe types of access in working at height operations 

• Participate effectively in a working at height operation risk assessment 

The 35 minute single module course includes a 'Knowledge Check' and Exam.

Example Hospitality Course 
Food Hygiene  

Course Description 

Food safety is essentially the discipline of handling, preparing and storing foods in ways that will prevent illness and loss. Food poisoning is 100% preventable as long as correct, simple procedures are followed.

 

The course is designed to provide understanding of the dangers of improper food hygiene, and explain the correct methods for preventing the spread of bacteria and poisoning. 

Course Objectives 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will understand:

• The importance of personal hygiene as it relates to dealing with food 

• How to avoid food contamination and poisoning 

• Processes for dealing with food  

• What are best practices for food hygiene
