June 5th, 2019 – Georgetown, Guyana – Over the next four months, Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) and TOTALTEC Oilfield Services will partner to recruit and train over 120 Guyanese in basic safety and oilfield operations to enable them to successfully join and participate in the oil and gas industry.
To keep pace with increasing offshore operations, including additional drilling rigs and the impending arrival of the first Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, GYSBI is expanding operational activities, requiring in excess of 120 Guyanese to fill safety and operational positions on the shore base located in Houston, Greater Georgetown. Recruiting and training candidates will be carried out by the TOTALTEC International Petroleum and Maritime Academy (IPMA, known as The Academy), using their existing programs.
“We are pleased to announce this joint effort to recruit, train, and deploy over 120 new Guyanese into the oil and gas industry” said Lars Mangal, CEO of TOTALTEC. “From its origins in early 2018, the Academy has developed programs to international standards and have already trained over 150 young Guyanese, many from other industries, including a number of women. We now have the building blocks to meet this aggressive goal. It’s a major and intensive undertaking to recruit and train 120 new young men and women in 4 months to join the industry.”
GYSBI employs over 200 Guyanese in its shore base operations in a wide range of activities. Adding over 100 additional recruits in the next four months presents a significant opportunity for local Guyanese to enter the industry.
Said Robin Muneshwer, Executive Director of GYSBI, “We’re proud of our workforce and what they have achieved from those early beginnings of the shore base in April 2017. The strong safety culture and their skills remain the foundation of our success. We look forward to growing our workforce to over 300 Guyanese strong before year end and continuing our leading role in developing local content.”
Successful recruits will attend the IPMA in Houston, greater Georgetown to undergo an intensive, 6-week hands-on Safety and Operational Training program prior to joining GYSBI. Candidates should visit https://www.totaltec-os.com/careers for instructions on how to apply.
