Delivering world class safety and maritime training to develop a Guyanese workforce to lead in its emerging oil and gas industry and beyond
13 Dec 2018, Georgetown, Guyana - TOTALTEC is pleased to announce a strategic alliance between the MATPAL Marine Institute and the International Petroleum and Maritime Academy (IPMA, commonly known as the Academy) to form the Maritime Safety Training Institute (MSTI).
This alliance provides a new integrated training and educational program, geared to accelerating the development of a world class Guyanese workforce to participate in both our maritime industry and internationally.
MATPAL and TOTALTEC are pioneering Guyanese companies and market leaders in their respective training offering in Guyana. MATPAL is the only Guyanese training institution which offers maritime training courses which are certified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Academy is the only training institution in Guyana which offers full immersion safety and operational training program into the oil and gas industry, including practical training on industry-specific equipment and machinery.
MSTI will develop state of the art facilities for maritime and safety related training. The new alliance is investing in Guyana’s future by employing industry certified instructors, equipment and new facilities to deliver all facets of this highly specialized training. Investments in training and development of Guyanese young men and women will be unparalleled, a strong commitment to investing in people to build a vibrant Guyanese workforce for this new industry.
The MATPAL courses offered through the alliance are certified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. Alliance graduates will be certified to work in Guyana, regionally, and internationally in the petroleum and maritime industries.
‘IPMA’s training courses are mapped to the UK-based Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and OPITO standards. OPITO is a global, not-for-profit, skills body for the energy industry”, said Lars Mangal, CEO of TOTALTEC. He continued, “In 2019, IPMA will be delivering courses which are fully certified by IOSH, along with progressing ISO 9001 certification and becoming an approved OPITO center.”
