Men on a Mission organized the second national youth camp, held at the Kuru Kuru Training Center, facilitated by volunteers from the Guyana Defense Force. The 3 day session was visited by Guyana President Dr. Irfan Ali, who remarked ‘We are molding you into the best citizens’. TOTALTEC CEO Lars Mangal was joined by a number of his leadership team, who provided real life examples for attendees to aspire to, emphasizing the importance of safety in Guyana’s new industries.
Life Skills Training Complements Traditional Education
The 3 day camp is designed to be a strong and necessary complement to traditional education, with focus on essential life skills. The camp brought together children from six administrative regions, focusing on the importance of discipline, mutual support, and ethical behavior. Throughout the 3 days, children were taught problem-solving and decision-making skills. Various other important topics were woven into the program, for example the environment, and personal health and hygiene.
In his kick off address to the group, Guyana President Dr. Irfan Ali emphasized the importance of collaborating with, and learning from each other - the importance of developing a support network.
“This camp is about building character. It’s about supporting each other, it’s about understanding the importance of life, and understanding how to make good decisions in life. It’s understanding how you can support each other, and how to live in love.”
President Ali continued, “This is what Men On Mission is all about, building positivity and ensuring that we develop the next generation to be the best possible citizens of our country.”
Chief of Defense Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, motivated the children to seize the opportunity to become better citizens, emphasizing the importance of the Men on a Mission Mentorship Programme.
TOTALTEC Visitors Provide Real Life Examples, Emphasize Safety
In addressing the group, TOTALTEC CEO Lars Mangal introduced the team joining him, and reinforced President Ali’s message. “With me today are a selection of TOTALTEC leaders who have been fortunate to have strong adult role models that provided continuous support in the areas you are learning about here. You will hear from each of them.”
The members of the TOTALTEC leadership team joining Mangal provided examples of their own dreams and challenges, and emphasized the importance of being part of a community. Joining Mangal were;
Lars Mangal, Guyanese
Sevorn Clarke, Guyanese
John Flores, Guyanese
Vishu Mangal, Guyanese
Julian Betts, British
Bindesh Rach, Canadian
Govind Vijayakrishnan, Indian
Mangal highlighted the importance of safety during the TOTALTEC session. He continued, “The energy, construction, and industrial sections are where many of you may find excellent career opportunities. These can be hazardous environments to work in, and something common to all is the importance of safety. Many of the life skills you are learning here are foundational to having a strong personal and team safety culture.”
5 Key Points for Your Future
In speaking to the group, the TOTALTEC CEO framed his message through 5 key points:
Your Dreams Matter, More Than You Know: Right now, you might think your dreams are just for fun, but they are the seeds of your future. You might want to be a pilot, an artist, a doctor, or even president! In Guyana, those dreams are closer than ever. Don't let anyone tell you it's impossible. Your dreams are fuel, and education is the engine that'll get you there.
Education; Your Superpower, Not a Chore: School isn't just about books and tests. It's about gaining superpowers! The power to understand the world, to solve problems, to build things, to express yourselves. These powers let you make choices, not just have things happen to you. At TOTALTEC Academy, we're here to help you discover your unique powers.
Being a Good Man; Strength, Not Weakness: In Guyana, real strength isn't just about muscles. It's about honesty, respecting others, and taking responsibility. Being a good man means lifting others up, not putting them down. That's the kind of strength companies like ours are looking for. That's the kind of strength that builds a great country.
You’re Not Alone; We’ve Got Your Back: Life can be tough, but you're not facing it alone. There are people who care about your success, and we're among them. TOTALTEC is a community, and its training academy is part of that ‘education superpower’. We'll help you find mentors, friends, and opportunities that'll make you a proud and successful Guyanese.
The Future Is Yours; Go Build It: Guyana is changing fast, and that means opportunity for those who are prepared. If you work hard, learn those 'superpowers' from education, and hold onto your good values, you'll be the ones building our nation. Don't just dream of a better future, be the ones who make it happen!
In closing, Mangal remarked, “In the future we hope to see a number of you at the TOTALTEC Academy, where the mix of online training, classroom, and practical sessions using real world equipment and technology, can get you started on your dream."
